Margaret R. Antilla

Margaret R. Antilla 62, of Breitung Twp., passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016. Margaret was born November 14, 1953 in Marquette, MI, daughter of the late George and Alice (Grace) Hokenson. She was a graduate of Houghton High School in 1971 and married Michael Antilla on September 15, 1973 in South Range, MI. The couple has been residents of the Iron Mountain area for the past 36 years. Margaret worked for many years as a nurse's aide in the home health field. One thing that stuck out about Margaret was her loving care for others. She truly had a heart of gold, always putting her family’s needs before her own. Her children and grandchildren were the lights of her life. She enjoyed every minute she spent with each and every one of them and took great pleasure watching them grow. She held her head high with pride for them all. She LOVED to cook and spent the majority of her time doing so. Family dinner was very important to her and she made a point to pass that on to her children and grandchildren. She also took great pleasure in thrift shopping, card and board games with her family, collecting cookbooks and trinkets, and weekly bingo games with her two best friends. And most of all, laughing. Her laugh was contagious and could light up a room. She spent her life surrounded by the ones she loved so dearly. She was a proud wife, mother, gramma, sister, and aunt. She is survived by her husband, Michael; her children, Robert Antilla of Breitung Twp., Leah Antilla of Iron Mountain, Sarah McMahon of Kingsford and Bradley (Hannah Jo) Antilla of Quinnesec; brothers, George Hokenson, Steven (Debbie) Hokenson, Alan Hokenson, Dwayne (Jean) Hokenson, Tracey (Michelle) Hokenson; sisters, Janice Edwards, Beverly Hokenson and Chrissy Hokenson; grandchildren, Tyler Kanyuh, Riley McMahon, Braden Antilla, Evangeline Antilla, EllaJo Antilla; a very special aunt Doreen “Babe” Aird; and two very dear friends she held close to her heart Elaine (Ernie) Bartels, and Wendy (Craig) Paulsen. In addition to her parents, Margaret was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael Hokenson; sisters, Judy Engman and Cindy Richards and her mother-in-law, Norma Antilla-Nuottila Visitation will be on Saturday, February 20th from 10:00 to 12:00 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon on February 20th at the funeral home.
