M. Rumpf

IRON MOUNTAIN - Genevieve M. Rumpf, 91, of White Birch Village, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on Jan. 14, 1918, in Mattoon, Wis., the daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Claus) Willing. Genevieve married Francis Rumpf in Kingsford in 1935. Prior to her husband's death in 1972, she was a homemaker, wife, and mother. Following his death, she received her high school diploma and went to work as a teacher's aide for the Florence School District. For 30 years, she nurtured and mentored countless students. Gen also enjoyed bowling and making crafts. She made more than 5,000 crosses that have been sent throughout the world and many quilts with the Holy Comforters at First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the Breen Center, where she was named Volunteer of the Year. She also visited the Golden Living Center in Florence weekly until it became her home. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Ina) Rumpf of Iron Mountain and Richard (Nancy) Rumpf of New Mexico; one daughter, Darlene Rumpf of Niagara; two sisters Jeanette Fournier and Kathro Ryan, both of Kingsford; six grandchildren, Kathy (David) Timmons of Gig Harbor, Wash., Kevin Rumpf of Kingsford, and Karol (Philip) Thomas of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Jodi O'Keeffee (Richard Bullock), Julie Singleton, and Joy (Todd) Mannebach; great-grandchildren, Derek, Jeffrey, and Molly Timmons, Benjamin Rumpf, and Nicole, Ashley, Shannon Thomas, Shane, Corrine, Justin, Jared (Susan), Jessica (John), and Alena; three great-great-grandchildren; a former granddaughter-in-law, Kelly Rumpf; and a special friend, Cindy Olsen of Iron Mountain. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doreen Rumpf and a granddaughter, Karen Rumpf. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and Thursday from 9 a.m.-10a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Rev. Stephen Cowen and Rev. Lee Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
