Lyle Hinkley

IRON MOUNTAIN - Lyle J. Hinkley, 93, formerly of 1011 Prospect St. in Iron Mountain, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain. Lyle was born July 19, 1915, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Austin and Hilda (Rayome) Hinkley. He was a 1933 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and served as a second lieutenant with the United States Army during World War II. Lyle married the former Mary Elizabeth Goggins on June 3, 1944, at St. Patrick Church in Green Bay, Wis. As a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, Lyle was a member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church where he has been an altar server since he was seven-years-old. Lyle was also active in the church as a Eucharistic minister, usher and reader. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus (4th degree) and Holy Name Society. Lyle enjoyed golfing and was an avid bridge player. He and his wife Mary enjoyed traveling together. He is survived by two sons, Thomas (Kathleen) Hinkley of Shelby Township, Mich. and James (Cindy) Hinkley of Adrian, Mich.; two daughters, Patricia Ann (Matthew) Szechtman of Glenville, Conn. and Margaret Mary (Thomas) Posthumus of Portage, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Joseph Hinkley, Juliana (Aaron) Haley, Genevieve Hinkley, Michelle (Matthew) Sicilia, Aaron Szechtman, Scott (Sarah) Hinkley, Brian Hinkley and Tim Hinkley, James (Jen) Posthumus and Kristen Posthumus; one great grandchild, Austin James Hinkley; and sisters-in-law, Olive Hinkley and Fran Hinkley Lyle was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Alfred Hinkley and sisters, Lucille Everts, Clarice Lake, Lorraine Paltzer and Olive Forstrom. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. from St. Mary and St. Joseph Church. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorials may be made in his memory to St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain, the Carmelite Monastery and Hyland Nursing Home.
