Lowell Swanson

Lowell D. Swanson 85 of Naples, FL. formerly of Iron Mountain and Kingsford, passed away on May 11, 2012. He was born on June 15, 1926 in Norway, son of the late Axel and Elsa Swanson. He attended school in Kingsford, graduating from Kingsford High School in 1944. Upon graduation he was called to serve in the United States Navy during WWII. Upon being Honorably discharged, he attended Ferris State University and graduated with Bachelor of Science Degree. He married the former Dolores Combs on August 27, 1949 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Iron Mountain. Lowell was employed by the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for 32 years, 25 of those years as the Hospital Administrator, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Michigan Hospital Association and the American College of Hospital Administrators. He was the Former President if the Kiwanis Club. He was a faithful member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford, and attended the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway. After becoming a resident of Naples, FL. he became a member of the First Baptist Church of Naples. He enjoyed studying the Bible, especially prophesy. He was a well known tennis champion, well into his 80's. He enjoyed his tennis buddies and the bond they shared. He was a fan of Coach Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Basketball team, and the Green Bay packers. He loved telling stories about growing up in the Ford Addition, including the influence Henry Ford had in the area. Also he liked to reminisce about his navy days and his family. He will be greatly missed by his family, and friends in Iron Mountain/Kingsford and Naples. Lowell is survived by his Loving wife of 62 years, Dolores (Combs) Swanson of Naples; daughters, Valri Swanson of Oak Creek, WI and Vicki Swanson of Norway. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00am at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway. Rev. James Danielson will officiate. All are welcome to join the family for a time of lunch and fellowship at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his memory to the Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford, or the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway.
