Louise Mente

Louise "Wib" Mente, 83, of Iron Mountain, went to be with her Lord and Saviour peacefully on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. Louise was born on Sept. 2, 1928, in Iron Mountain, and was the daughter of the late John and Lucy (Kattnig) Mente. She was the second daughter of seven children. Wib graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1947 and went on to pursue a career in business shortly thereafter. Wib moved to Rosemont, Ill. in the early 60s and spent many years working in a professional office environment. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, but was always happy to see the Packers win. She had an adventure-filled life, loved downhill skiing, cross country skiing and bowling. She even got to tour the countryside of Europe for 13 months as a young woman. Painting with water color was also a favorite pastime of Wib's. Many of her pieces are still displayed in the homes of her loved ones. She was breast cancer survivor and was always willing to help out a family member in need. She was the perfect example of what a true Christian should be, and many admired her for her Faith in the Lord. Her zest for life was contagious and she was loved by all who knew her. Wib had many close friend whose lives were touched by her presence. She was a cherished member of her family and was known affectionately to all as "Auntie Wib or Wibbie". She had a great sense of humor and her close relationship with her sister, Mary Provencher is one so rich that no amount of words would do it justice. They are the best of friends and enjoyed making each other laugh. Wib is survived by her sister, Mary Provencher of Kingsford and her brother, Raymond (Julie) Mente of Shawano, Wis. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews and a great great great nephew. In addition she leaves several God children. Louise was preceded in death by four brothers, John Jr., Bernard, Paul and Joseph Mente and two nephews, Jeffrey and Mike Mente. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at American Martyrs Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of the Christian burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be David Provencher, Josh Provencher, Ken Davis, Daniel Davis, Rick Lindow, Justin Hosking and Gary Mahan.
