Lorraine "Lori" Barker

Lorraine "Lori" Barker, 87, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully with her family and friends at her side Friday, October 17, 2014 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 10, 1927 in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Fred and Ida (Norgren) Furno. Lori married Art Barker on October 16, 1971. He preceded her in death in 1998. Lorraine worked as an assistant purchaser for Gimbels in Milwaukee and also in Ohio, where she lived for many years. She also worked for a jewelry store in her later years. Lorraine moved back to Iron Mountain ("God's Country", as her mother would say) in 2008. Lorraine enjoyed her cats, gardening, playing cards, traveling, and helping her neighbors and friends. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Michigan State Spartans fan. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. While in Ohio, Lorraine was actively involved in her church and had served on the Church board. Lori is survived by two brothers, Elroy (Betty)Furno of Pine Creek and Elmer "Lub" Furno of Pine Creek, two sisters Carol Stuart of Pine Creek and Gloria (Ronald "Hubba") Brault of Niagara, a special niece Linda Oleksy, nephew Randy Brault, grandniece Meribah Oleksy, caretaker Kay Krull, special cousins Marian Wadell and Lucille Forstrom, and many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She also leaves special friends Bob Christy, and his son Scott, Ricky Hood, Pat Bond, Mary Carzalla, Dorothy Burkart, Shirley and Jess Akers, Pauline Stoermer, Shirley Hall, Betty Daniels Jennie Dixon, Pauline Nickell, Bernice McGuire, Jerry and Kathy Skadowski, Judy Jansen, and Gerri Branback. She is further survived by her special hairdresser Vicki Bianchi, and special pastors Mike March and Don and Donna Shepherd, and her cat Puggy. The family apologizes for any friends they may have forgotten. Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Reverend Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church and Almost Home Animal Shelter.
