Lloyd Peterson

KINGSFORD - Lloyd L. "Buzz" Peterson, 73, of 404 Newton St. Kingsford died Monday, March 9, 2009 at his home with his wife of 53 years by his side. He was born January 31, 1936 in Iron Mountain to the late Lloyd and Grace (Rumpf) Peterson. After graduation from Kingsford High School in 1954, Buzz joined the United States Marine Corp. He was on active duty until Jan. 27, 1956 and was honorably discharged. Upon moving back to the area, he married Marcia Clement on April 28, 1956 at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Buzz was a member of the Marine Corps League, Loyal Order of Moose, and the American Legion. He was an active member of the Lion's Club for many years. Buzz was a well respected, hard-working volunteer at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. Buzz was an avid golfer for many years and shared this activity with family members and friends. In 1970, Buzz and Marcia built a camp in the Wauceda area. There have been many years of enjoyment shared at the camp with family and friends. Many snowmobile gatherings, family reunions, garbage can turkey roasts and bonfires where everyone sang off key and shared stories. The family will fondly remember lively political discussions held with Buzz. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; a son, Michael (Denice) Peterson; daughters, Ann (Bruce) Olson, Katharine (Steve) Barnes, Linda (Gale) Michaud, and Kim (Todd) Collins; grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Joshua Peterson, Sara and Stacy (Matt Lutz) Olson, Kristina and Derek Barnes, Sydney Peterson, Brandon, Dan, Cole and Abby Michaud, and Anthony and Emily Collins; a brother, Eugene "Gene" (Chris) Peterson; sisters, Bev Winters and Karen Weslowski; a dear uncle, Zygmund Bonkowski; and very dear friends, William "Bill" Cavaiani and Frank McKinnon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Lloyd; a son, Jeffery Peterson; a brother, James Peterson and sisters, Carol Minella and Donna Lempinen. A private family viewing will be held on Thursday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Public funeral services will take place on Thursday at 11:00am at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. Buzz's grandsons will serve as pallbearers and his granddaughters will be honorary pallbearers. In celebration of Buzz's life, all family and friends are invited to an open house from 3:00 to 6:00pm on Thursday at Buzz and Marcia's home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Peterson Memorial Scholarship that was started at the time of Buzz's son, Jeffery's death.
