Kathy "Mary" Moore

Kathy “Mary” Moore, 72, of Iron Mountain passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in the comfort of her own home. Kathy was born in Torrance, CA, on Sept. 29, 1949, to the late Daniel and Dorothy (Bayee) Moore. She graduated from Narbonne High School in Harbor City, CA, class of ’67. Her only child, Danelle, was born on June 11, 1969, shortly before Kathy moved to Michigan. She worked many positions, including at Emerson in Menominee, and as a cook for the Stephenson Family Restaurant and later for Hirsch’s. In 1982, she graduated from Bay College. After suffering a bad fall in 2006, Kathy moved to Iron Mountain. Her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others were evident by her time spent running the Senior Center in Kingsford and her volunteer work. She also enjoyed time spent knitting, watching football, playing Bingo, or just spending time outdoors in nature, where she was fond of both bird watching and people watching. If the weather didn’t behave, or she just couldn’t get out, she was most comfortable with a cup of coffee and book in hand or working on word searches or crossword puzzles. Above all, Kathy cherished time spent with her family. She loved every opportunity to go spend time with her grandchildren, talk on the phone with her brothers, and spend time with her late partner Jerry Wery. Kathy will be deeply missed by her 3 grandchildren, Jared (Joelynn) Schwamlien, Maya Schwamlien, and MacKenzie Schwamlien (Andrew Mann); 3 brothers, Kenneth (Debbie) Moore, Jerry (Bert) Moore, and Thomas (Katy) Moore: son-in-law, Stuart Lahti; many nieces and nephews; and her pet companion, Bean. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Dorothy Moore; daughter, Danelle Lahti; and her life partner, Jerry Wery. Special thank you to her caretaker Joelynn Musgrove, UP-CAP Services, and those who were willing to lend a helping hand to Kathy.
