Joseph Lagina Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joseph Lagina IRON MOUNTAIN - Joseph A. Lagina, 82, of 1805 Pyle Drive, Kingsford, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. Joe was born June 5, 1921, in Escanaba, son of the late Andrew and Cecelia (Quinn) Lagina. He was raised in Iron Mountain and attended Iron Mountain High School, graduating in 1941. Joe entered the U.S. Army in 1942, serving as a combat medic during the second wave of Normandy. He was also stationed in England, France, Germany and Belgium before returning to the states in 1945. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Joe worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad until retiring in 1981. Joe enjoyed baseball. He pitched and was a third baseman for "Cavi's Crystal Bar" in Aurora, Wis. for many years. He also enjoyed taking drives in the car, going out for coffee, playing cards and spending time with family. He was an avid Pack and Notre Dame fan. Joe had a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Jane Conard of Ironwood and Nancy (Louis) Bal of Norway; many nieces and nephews, including Cindy (Dave) McRae, Judy White, Jeff Conard, Steve (Jovey) Bal, Teresa (Mike) Swanson, Denise (Steve) Feira, Colleen (Pete) Betker, Maureen Vieau, and Joe Bal; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Joe was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and William; a sister, Helen, and a nephew, Michael. Visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral service will follow Monday at noon at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
