Joseph Deyaert

IRON MOUNTAIN - Joseph F. Deyaert, 72, of Iron Mountain went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009. He passed peacefully in his sleep at hunting camp, the place he would have chosen. He was born Nov. 15, 1936, in Norway, son of the late Macon Deyaert and Gertrude (Groeneveld) Deyaert. Joseph married Norma Rumpf on Aug. 16, 1958, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Norma, of 51 years; daughters, Maureen (Randy) Cavaiani of North Barrington, Ill. and Andrea (Michael) Michaud of Green Bay; sons, Daniel (Mary) Deyaert, Daren (Patty) Deyaert of Iron Mountain, Brian (Joni) Deyaert of New Market, Md.; grandchildren, Erin and William Cavaiani, Joe and Paul Deyaert, Eric Deyaert, Jackie (Tim) McCarthy, Katie Skoglund, Olivia and Alec Deyaert and Connor Michaud; a great-granddaughter, Aurora McCarthy; a brother, Roger (Sue) Deyaert and sister, Patricia (Richard) Faccio all of Norway. He was preceded in death by his parents, Macon and Gertrude (Groeneveld) Deyaert of Norway; father-in-law, Gene Rumpf and mother-in-law, Edith Rumpf; and brothers-in-law, Donald Casanova and Ronald Rumpf. Joe was a self-employed plastering contractor for more than 40 years; his workmanship can be found throughout the areas businesses and homes. He enjoyed his retirement years while working part-time at Z&R Electric. There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix or build. He was an avid hunter, whether large or small game. He especially enjoyed trout fishing. He loved every opportunity to spend time with his sons and grandsons at hunting camp. He was dedicated to his family. His quiet demeanor, his quiet sense of humor and casual smile will always be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Joe and Norma wintered in Florida for the past several years, enjoying the warm weather golfing together. Visitation will be at Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be Larry Suino, Jerry Morelli and grandsons Joe Deyaert, William Cavaiani, Eric Deyaert and Paul Deyaert. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
