Joanne M. LaPointe

Joanne Marie (Desmarais) LaPointe, 93, of Iron Mountain died March 11, 2022 at MaryHill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara, Wisconsin. She was born February 9, 1930 in Iron Mountain, Michigan to William and Louise Demarais. Joanne married Robert D. LaPointe on May 13, 1950. After a long and patient wait of 13 years, Joanne and Bob had three sons. In the early years of their marriage, Bob and Joanne lived in Oregon and the Milwaukee area before returning home to Iron Mountain to raise their sons. Joanne loved her flower and vegetable gardens, volunteering at the church, her pets and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. After Bob’s retirement, they traveled extensively in their motorhome and enjoyed many years of seeing the country together. Their favorite destination was “out west”. In her later years, Joanne decided she wanted a dog for companionship and along came Willie, a black and white shih-tzu, whom she adored with all her heart. Willie and Joanne were frequently seen all over town as Willie took Joanne on long walks nearly every day. Joanne was a life-long member of St. Mary St. Joseph parish and volunteered many hours of her time to the church over the years as a Eucharistic Minister, helping in the church office and an Adorer at the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Joanne leaves her three sons, Paul (Connie) LaPointe of Kingsford, Jon LaPointe of Kingsford and Peter LaPointe of Iron Mountain, three grandchildren; Harmony (Justin) Wedin of Iron Mountain, Conrad LaPointe of Iron Mountain and Amber LaPointe of Iron Mountain, two step-grandsons, Stephan (Catie) Schultz of Kingsford, and Tyler Schultz of Kingsford, 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her beloved canine companion, Molly. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 51 years, Robert LaPointe, one sister, Patricia Shaw, and her grand-daughter Emily LaPointe. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March. 16th from 11:00 AM to 1:15 PM at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, MI. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 PM at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Janusz Romanek will offciate. Burial will be at Cemetery Park, Iron Mountain, MI.
