Joan Carol "Joannie" Flink

Joan "Joannie" Carol (Johnson) Flink, 83, of Norway passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2015, after a short illness surrounded by her family. She was born April 6, 1932, in Norway, MI., daughter of the late Einar and Ida “Bernice” (Gustafson) Johnson. Joan attended school in Norway and graduated from Norway High School, class of 1950. She then attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. She married Charles “Chuck” Flink on June 21, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norway. Chuck preceded her in death on June 14, 1978. Joan and Chuck moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1969 and Joan returned to Norway in 1980 after Chuck’s death. She worked at Ebeling’s in Norway until the death of her brother, Larry “Hairdo” Johnson. She then helped her sister-in-law Marybelle Johnson care for her four children, Leanne, Brock, Kristen, and Kevin whom she loved and cared for as her own. She was an active member of Berkeley Hills Lutheran Church in Pittsburgh, PA and Bethany Lutheran Church in Norway later renamed Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She served as the church Treasurer and was on the altar guild. She was a member of the Oak Crest golf course for many years. She enjoyed golfing with her friends and having a beer after their round of golf. She loved to bake and everyone raved about her “pumpkin bars”. She played cards for years, and always looked forward to playing with her 500 Club. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Larry Johnson and infant twin brothers, Terry and Teddy Johnson and three sisters, Rita Anderson, Lois Whitford, and Nancy Curiel. She leaves three sons, Frederick Flink (Grace Holleman) of Norway, James “Ted” Flink (Nancy) of Cary, NC, Patrick Flink (Bonnie) of Cranberry Township, PA; three daughters, Jane (Roch) Carter of Mequon, WI, Julie (John) Hepner of Dayton, OH, and Sally (Chris) McDonald of Dorr, MI; a brother Robert Johnson of Norway; and two sisters, Sally (Robert) Zanoni of Milwaukee and Shirley (David) Oberthaler of Kingsford, MI; Grandchildren, Brian (Jacquelyn) Flink, Jason Flink, Ashley Hepner, Brittany Hepner, Madison McDonald, Natalie McDonald, Vincent Carter, Matthew Carter, Monica Carter, Susie Moore, Larry Bowman, Sara Jason, and Theresa Schultz; Great-grand children, Meghan Schultz, Marissa Schultz, Alona Hepner, Tanner Hepner, and Evan Carter. The visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Norway. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church. Rev. Dr. Michael Langlais and Rev. John T. Voelker, Ph.D will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Norway.
