Jeanette "Jan" P. Wickman

Jeanette P. “Jan” Wickman, 82, of Vulcan, MI, passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. Jan was born September 29, 1938, in Detroit, MI, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (LaBonte) Lennon. She graduated in 1956 from St. Vincent Catholic High School in Detroit and married David Wickman on November 14, 1962, in Redford Township. Jan worked at Burroughs Corporation in the office upon graduating high school. After Jan and Dave moved to the U.P., Jan served as secretary at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Vulcan for over 10 years, where she was a Parish member, sang in the choir, and served on the Parish Council. She also was a cashier at Kmart for over 20 years. Jan was an avid reader who loved history and biographies. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, and feeding the birds, ducks, and squirrels. Jan enjoyed the Girls Birthday Club with her friends for many years. She was a kind and generous person who regularly supported many charitable organizations. Family was her top priority, and she rarely missed an event with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David; her children, Maureen (Tony) Grell of Wild Rose, WI, Mary Ann (Steve) Andrews of Breitung Township, Eric Wickman of Vulcan, MI, and Kathleen Wickman of Norway, MI; five grandchildren, Taylor Andrews, Jordyn Grell, Marcus (Lorna) Andrews, Jackson Andrews, and Emma Andrews; two great-grandchildren, Jett and Charlie Ray; a sister, Mary Booker of Livonia; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her son, Michael. Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00 am. Fr. Timothy Ekaitis will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Margo and Bethany at Back in Motion Physical Therapy; the Nurses at DCH including Chad, Dana, Sally, and Bobbie Jo; and Theresa, Nancy and all of the Nurses/staff at Maryhill Manor who took such loving and compassionate care of our Wife/Mother during her last few weeks.
