Janice Milligan

Janice "Jan" Milligan, 80, of Foster City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. She was born on Sept. 4, 193,0 in Detroit, daughter of the late Stephen and Margaret "Peg" (Murray) Charlevoix. She moved to Hardwood at the age of 11 and has been a resident ever since. She attended school in Felch, graduating from Felch High School in 1948. She married Pat Milligan on Nov. 26, 1949, in Foster City, and spent nearly 62 wonderful years together. Jan worked for the United States Postal Service as the Postmaster in Foster City for 20 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Foster City. She loved flowers, birds, reading, cooking, baking and crossword puzzles in her spare time. She was also a member of the Letter Carriers Association and Postal Auxiliary. She is survived by her loving husband, Patrick; sons, Patrick (Deb) Milligan of Foster City and Steve (Bonnie) Milligan of Vulcan; daughters, Holly (Ross) Dixon of Iron Mountain, Tricia (Don) Mattson of North Dickinson, Jeanne (Boyd) Dixon of Iron Mountain, Nancy (Ron) Basile of Foster City, Susy (Ted) Budek of North Dickinson, and Sarge Milligan of Vulcan; grandchildren, Derek (Leah) Dixon, Ashley Dixon, Christopher (Michelle) Mattson, Lisa (Benoit) Robinot Bertrand, Nicholas Mattson, Sasha Dixon, Taylor Basile, Regan and Garth Budek, and Cale, Shea, and Macrea Anderson; great-grandchildren, Marley Dixon, Maximus and Maggie Mattson, and Madeleine Robinot Bertrand; brothers, Robert Charlevoix of Wakefield and Stephen (Marilyn) Charlevoix of Foster City; and a sister-in-law, Alice Charlevoix of Kingsford; inlaws, Faye (Anthony) Bartoszek, James (Anna) Milligan, Phyllis (Marshall) Kesler, and Janet Skibo. Jan was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Ann Rymkos Carl in 1959; a granddaughter, Brianne Dixon in 1988; a grandson Craig Anderson in 1999; a brother, Harold Charlevoix in 2007; and a great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Robinot Bertrand in 2010. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Foster City. The funeral Mass will follow Saturday at 12 noon at the church. Fr. Mark McQuesten will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Foster City Cemetery. Jan's grandsons, Derek, Chris, Nick, Taylor, Regan, Garth, Cale, Shea, Macrea, and Benoit will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
