Jane Degenaer

Jane Elizabeth Degenaer (Native American name Myingun Nikimo "Wolf Growling") of the Wolf Clan, 59, died on Aug. 9, 2010, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Green Bay, Wis,, following a brief battle with cancer. Jane was born in Hancock, on June 28, 1951, the daughter of Raymond and Doris (Bordeleau) Miron, who raised her to be the strong and loving person she was. Jane married Delbert Degenaer on Nov. 26, 1983, in Vulcan. They made their home in Vulcan where she took so much pride in her home, flowers and plants. Jane was the first woman in the State of Michigan to be a card carrying carpenter with the Carpenter's Local Union 1510. She took such pride in her art and carpentry, which was amazing. She owned and operated the Ice Cream Truck for 1 year and Jane was a very caring and loving person which lead her to work as an arts and craft director and cook at Evergreen Assisted Living. She loved her Lord with all her heart and found great joy and peace in her Native American ceremonies and gatherings. Jane was a very talented artist. She especially loved to do pencil drawings and her Native American beading and artwork. She loved gardening and her flowers, crocheting, cooking, baking and candy making, especially during the holidays. She loved to decorate for every holiday, especially Christmas. She touched the lives of so many people and was known by her many nieces and nephews as "Auntie Goodie." She also loved her dog, Shayanne. Jane is survived by her husband, Delbert Degenaer of Vulcan; a son, Dallas Degenaer of Quinnesec, who was the joy of her life; stepchildren, Dina (Aaron Zietlow) Perrault of Green Bay, Wis., and her children, Tyler and Paige, Scott (Susan) Degenaer of Texas, and his children, Omar and Jasmine, Robbie Ann (Eugene) Kollmann and their children, Garrett, Megan and Jordan; two great-grandchildren, MaKayla and Chase Kollmann; her mother, Doris Miron of L'Anse; brothers, Harold (Kathleen) Miron of Covington and David (Julie) Miron of Ishpeming; sisters, Ann (Bogue) Sandberg of Chassell, Joan Miron of Marquette, Phyllis (Terry) Lee of L'Anse, Patty (Chris) Sholander of Crystal Falls, and Jacqueline Miron of Traverse City, Mich.; three sisters-in-law, Frances (late Perley) Hood of Felch, JoAnn (Ron) Matonich of Vulcan and Debby (Pat) Sullivan of Vulcan; four brothers-in-law, Robert (Robelle) Degenaer of Vulcan, John (Cheryl) Degenaer of Norway, Pat (Ann) Degenaer of Baraga, and Michael Degenaer of Norway and many special nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Miron on Nov. 21, 1996, father and mother-in-law, John and Francelia Degenaer, and brother-in-law, Perley Hood. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her and especially her Native American teachers and special friends Don Jenereau, Mary Aspell, Jim Williams and Nancy Major, and her special sister-in-law, Robelle Degenaer. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Jean Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be set up in her memory. Condolences to the family of Jane E.
