Irene LeQuia

Irene K. LeQuia, 88, of Kingsford passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Dickinson County Hospital surrounded by her family. Irene was born on Jan. 11, 1923, in St. Cloud, Minn., daughter of the late Otto and Frances (Karish) Steindorf. She was a graduate of Kingsford High School. Irene worked in sales at several local department stores. She married Francis "Fuzzy" LeQuia on April 12, 1947, in Iron Mountain. She was a loving, devoted wife and they shared 64 wonderful years together. Irene was a member of American Martyrs Church and a past member of the Daughters of Isabella. She volunteered at the Breen Avenue Senior Center and was a social member of Oak Crest Golf Club. Irene was an avid card player and played bridge at Oak Crest and the senior center. Pinochle and smear were also her favorite card games. Irene was a master of crossword puzzles and waited every day for her husband, Fuzzy to bring in The Daily News so she could work on the crossword puzzle, Jumble and keep up on current events. She loved to travel and had enjoyed visiting most of the 50 states. She also enjoyed various bus trips to see Broadway plays and musicals, especially Chicago. Irene loved to read, especially about London and European Royalty. She looked forward to watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, the Game Show Channel and Dancing With The Stars. Irene was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Irene especially loved spending time with her family and will be sadly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Francis "Fuzzy;" her caring son, F.D. "Fuzzy" (Linda) LeQuia of Felch; daughters and best friends, Deborah Ann (Douglas) Skytta of Ishpeming and Ann Irene (Herman) Morosini of Watertown, N.Y.; baby sister, Doris Slayton of Port Richey, Fla.; proud grandmother of Brenda (Kirk) Mattson of Felch, Rebecca (Chad) Steinbrecher of Felch, Teresa (Brad Barglind) LeQuia-Steele of Kingsford, Angela Morosini of Watertown, N.Y. and Elizabeth Morosini of Watertown; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Dugan Mattson, Julia and Lucas Steinbrecher and a great-granddaughter due on June 7, 2011. She also leaves her four legged grandson, Tanner, several nieces and nephews and her card partner, Marge Balmes of Iron Mountain. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Steindorf , a sister, Margaret Allen and her stepfather, Oliver King. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
