Herman "Butch" Reed

Herman R. "Butch" Reed, 74, of Niagara, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. He was born January 14, 1938 on the Stockbridge Reservation in Gresham, WI, son of the late James and Martha (Herzog) Reed. Butch was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1956 to 1960. He married Elizabeth "Liz" Marcus on November 26, 1960 in Vintondale, PA. Butch was a mechanic by trade, obtaining a degree in automatic transmissions from Northern Michigan University in 1980. He was employed for several years at Machus Service Station in Kingsford and at Arco Service Station in Pembine. Butch also drove school bus for the Pembine School District, worked with his wife at the Port Restaurant, did roofing jobs, and worked at Grede Foundry for a few years among various other small jobs. His family was his number one priority and he did whatever was necessary to make ends meet. Butch was a car "nut" and especially liked older model and antique cars, tractors and pretty much anything with an engine. He enjoyed listening to and singing old country music songs. Butch always told his children, "No matter what happens in life, keep on singing." He also enjoyed watching Westerns on TV and reading novels by his favorite author, Louie LaMour. Butch was very fond of children and was always willing to help out anyone in need. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Liz; six children, James (Lisa) Reed of Randville, Theresa Malone of Kingsford, Carl (Jean-Ann) Reed of Granite Bluff, Cheryl (John) Schultz of Bellevue, MI, Deborah (Robert) Bouche of Bellevue, MI and Joshua (Angela) Reed of Granite Bluff; 10 grandchildren, Keylyn and Alexander Reed, Michael (Victoria), Robert (Krystl) and Matthew Malone, Christopher and Nicholas Reed, Slone Schultz, and Reihannen and Izayah Reed; two great grandchildren, Kaden and Athena Malone; a brother, James (Fran) Reed of Pembine; a sister, Rubie (Louis) Lamprecht of Milwaukee, WI; his mother-in-law, Josephine Marcus; sisters-in-law, Alice Mans, Heidi Reed, Alvera (Walter) Spare and Mary (Scott) Foreman; brothers-in-law, Neil Etheridge and Philip (Teresa) Marcus; and many nieces and nephews. Butch was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Etheridge and Sadie Matchett and two brothers, Steve and Henry Reed. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 21 from 9:00am to 12:00 noon at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingsford. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church. Deacon Brad Lemke will officiate. The American Legion Post 461 of Pembine will conduct military honors.
