Hazel Sylvia Stachowicz

Hazel Elda Sylvia Stachowicz, 91, of Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Mon. April 2, 2012 at her home. She was born in Oconto Falls, WI on August 21, 1920, the daughter of the late Charles and Elenora (Nofkee) Lauersdorf. Hazel graduated from Kingsford High School in 1938. Hazel was a hard worker and had worked at Norway Gravure for thirty-five years, retiring as the manager of the finishing department. Hazel dreamed of being a dancer and enjoyed dancing her entire life. She and her husband, Tony, were excellent dance partners and were known in this area for polka dancing. She also went to many dances at the C & R Bar and the Senior Citizen Center. She was very intelligent and liked to share her knowledge with others, whether it was teaching someone how to Polka or helping her grandchildren with math. Hazel enjoyed being with people, talking with them, and spending time with them. She enjoyed going to Kresge's for coffee, shopping, going out to eat, and going to the casino. Hazel always looked classy and was loved by all who knew her, especially her family. Hazel married Anton Stachowicz on June 18, 1949 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. He preceded her in 1995. She is survived by her daughter Sheila Hammerberg of Kingsford; four grandchildren Clay (Donna) Ehmer of Norway, Marcy (Audy) Maye of Pembine, Stacy Stepien of Pembine, and Nick Ehmer of Pembine; eight great grandchildren Michelle (Bubba) Ehmer , Eric (Jessica) Ehmer , Amber (Kyle) Ehmer, Nicole (Shawn) Martin, Stephanie(Codey) Stepien, Britney Stepien, Mackenzie Stepien, and Keifer Ehmer; four great great grandchildren Hunter Hopkins, Rayonna Ehmer, Ema Snider-Stepien, and Eliana Ehlert, her special neighbors Bonnie and Bruce Burkman, and many other relatives and special friends. Hazel was preceded in death by one granddaughter Wendy Ehmer, one brother Herbert Lauersdorf, and a special friend Bob Barribeau. Visitation will be Wed. from 9:30-10:30 at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11am Wed. at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Father Joseph Gouin will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
