Gordon "Gordy" Ellis

Gordon “Gordy” L. Ellis, 87, of Kingsford, died Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his home. He was born on Jan. 27, 1929 in Aurora, the son of the late Raymond “Ray” and Myrtle (Martin) Ellis. Gordon graduated from Kingsford High School in 1947. He went to work at the Niagara Paper Mill and retired after forty-six years. On August 19, 1950, Gordon married Patricia "Pat" Johnson in Kingsford and they celebrated sixty-five years of marriage just last year. The couple enjoyed traveling across the United States, in their motor home, visiting every state West as well as several Southern states and a few on the East coast. Gordon enjoyed spending time at his son Jeff's camp hunting, having shoot his last buck at the age of 79. He was a tinkerer and bicycle repairman, he saved everything and always had spare parts to share. His children always visited the basement stock pile before heading to a hardware store. Gordon had a passion for gardening and was especially proud of his tomatoes and cucumbers. His friends and family often looked to him for gardening tips. He loved fresh fruit and vegetables, pure cherry juice and cheese from the store in Lena. Gordy made amazing strawberry and raspberry jam annually and baked homemade bread regularly. He always shared and was willing to help anyone in need. Gordon is survived by his wife Patricia "Pat", five children Kathy Peterson of Iron Mountain, William “Bill” (Kathy) Ellis of Quinnesec, Jeff (Jane) Ellis of Iron Mountain, Cindy Grailer of Haw River, NC, and Perry (Cheryl) Ellis of Kingsford, nine grandchildren Clint (Jodie) Peterson, Theresa (John) Proudfit, Rebecca Peterson, Robert “Bob” (Julie) Ellis, Brian (Sue) Ellis, Erick (Brittany) Grailer, Sean Grailer (Kalon Allison), Tracy (Brandon) Rutter, and Taryn (Brad) Chatel, 16 great grandchildren Savahnna (Zach) Pollock, Victoria “Tori Mae” Peterson, Joaquin Peterson, Brittany Brooks, Brianna Peterson, Cassidy Peterson, Karen Proudfit, Brandon Proudfit, Hannah Proudfit, Kalli Proudfit, Addison Rutter, Claire Rutter, Shannon Chouinard, Tanner (Bryce) Chouinard, Daniel Grailer, Baby Chatel, who is on the way, and one great, great grandchild Riley Proudfit. He is further survived by two sisters-in-law Lorraine Luba and Arlene “Chickie” Ellis, both of Kingsford, one brother-in-law William “Bill” (Sandy) Johnson of Kingsford and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother Laurel “Lolly” Ellis, one sister Joyce Andrews, his mother and father-in-law William “Bill” and Elizabeth “Queenie” Johnson, one daughter-in-law Karla Ellis, two sons-in-law Robert S. “Bob” Peterson and Daniel Grailer, three brothers-in-law Clyde Luba, Jack Andrews, and Melvin “Bud” Paquette, and one sister-in-law Bernice “Bunny” Paquette.
