Gladys Kilgren

Gladys Marie Kilgren, 90, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday July 28, 2011 at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. Gladys was born on Nov. 29, 1920 in Mountain View, Okla., son of the late Russell and Lilly (Lomenick) George. She was raised in Mountain View and graduated from Mountain View High School. After graduation she went on to graduate from nursing school in Clinton, Okla. Gladys married James P. Kilgren after he returned home from military service on August 21, 1943 in Chicago. They moved to the Channing-Sagola area in 1943, raised their family in Sagola and spent the rest of their married lives in that community. James preceded her in death in 1982. Gladys worked as a Registered Nurse at the Crystal Falls Community Hospital for many years. She retired from Pine Manor Nursing Home in Kingsford in 1985. Gladys was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford and attended bible study there. She was also involved in the shawl ministry at Maryhill Manor. She was a very compassionate caregiver and nurse who, was always there for friends and neighbors in the local community. Gladys is survived by her children, Jerrilyn (Les) Reinhard of Iron Mountain, Penny (Ted) Anderson of Traverse City, Mich., Winnie (Jim) Fornetti of Iron Mountain and Russ (Grace) Kilgren of Marquette; a sister, Doris George of Hobart, Okla.; grandchildren, Jodi Lynn Reinhard, Brenda (Mike) Dymkowski, Cindy (Barry Smith) Anderson, Daniel (Sarah) Fornetti, Matthew Fornetti, Ryan Kilgren and Todd(Liz) Kilgren; great grandchildren, Natalie and Ryan Dymkowski and Seth Kilgren. A special friend and roommate, Eunice Morin and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Louis George. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday at the church. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in the Channing Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
