Gertrude Moroni

KINGSFORD - Gertrude Moroni, 90, of 1820 Mary's Way in Kingsford, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008. Her husband of 69 years and her granddaughter were by her side. Gertrude was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Phelps, Wis., daughter of the late Clyde and Mary (Rose) Neldberg. Gertrude graduated from Kingsford High School in 1936. On May 10, 1939, she married Louis Moroni at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Gertrude was 11 years-old when she moved with her family to Kingsford. She worked with her father at Capital Grocery for 11 years. Gertrude was a member of American Martyrs and of St. Veronica-Ann Guild. She is survived by her husband, Louis; two sons, Michael (Mary) Moroni of Iron Mountain and Thomas (Michael) Moroni of Woodberg, Minn.; one daughter, Jill (Robert Imel) Johnson of Kingsford; her grandchildren, Jane Moroni of Iron Mountain, Jennifer (Greg "Chip") Anderson of Kingsford, Dan Moroni of Las Vegas, Kate Moroni of St. Paul, Minn., Angela (Andrew) Coan of Aurora, Wis. and Bryan (Amy Edwards) Johnson of Iron Mountain; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Ben Anderson and Drew and Brookelyn Coan; one brother, Bob (Monica) Neldberg and two sisters-in-law, Betty Neldberg and Barbara (Reuben) Hamari; one brother-in-law, Doug Sinks; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Clyde and Mary Neldberg; two brothers, Sonny and Ronald Neldberg; two sisters, Pat Packham and Mary Sinks; two brothers-in-law, Bert Pozza and Bob Packham, along with sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Dominic Badini. Gert's family is what gave her the greatest enjoyment during her life. She adored her children and was tireless in her devotion to her family. She was there for all the big moments and the small ones, because being with her spouse, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was the center of who she was. Gert found great purpose and joy in tending to the needs of those close to her. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. Her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
