Gerald W. Smith

Gerald W. Smith, 71, of Breitung Twp, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family. Gerald was born on February 3, 1943 in Marinette, Wisconsin, son of the late Roland and Mary (Sadowitcz) Smith of Niagara. He graduated from Niagara High School. He married LoAnne LaPointe in December of 1962 in Quinnesec. Gerald lived in Bolingbrook, Illinois until 2007 and he and LoAnne retired to the U.P. in 2007. He was employed by Stocker Hinge in Brookfield, IL as Supervisor of Manufacturing for 41 years. Gerald was a member of American Martyrs Church in Kingsford and the Knights of Columbus. Music was very important to him. He was involved in a guitar group for St. Dominic Church for 19 years and also played guitar for Special Ed. children at St. Dominic's. Gerald also played in a rock band for four years. He loved to ski, especially on Pine Mountain. Gerald also built model airplanes with his dad and painted many pictures for family and friends. Sudoku was a favorite pastime. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald "Jay" Smith, brothers, James Smith, Dennis "Clarence" Smith and brother in law George "Chum" LaPointe Gerald is survived by his loving wife, LoAnne; his daughters, Maureen (Larry) Youngs of Romeoville, IL, Kathleen Smith of Bolingbrook, IL, Michelle Sweeten of Quinnesec and Audrey Smith of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, Melissa Youngs, Samantha Youngs, Christopher Youngs, Nicholas Taylor Smith, Austin Taylor Smith, Jay Sweeten, Quinn Rzeznikiewicz and Felicia Parham; nieces and nephews, Cheri LaPointe Dupra, Nicole LaPointe Gasper, Paul LaPointe, Kristy Smith Mahon, Dennis Smith, Roland J. Smith and step niece, Samantha Cox. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 7th from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Kingsford Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Fr. Paul Nomellini will offer the Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
