Gerald "Jerry" Schinderle

Gerald A. "Jerry" Schinderle, 70, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away on Sat. May 23, 2015 from a brief illness. Gerald, or "Jerry," as he was known to his friends was born in Iron Mountain on September 21, 1944, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Andreoli) Schinderle. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School and received a football scholarship to Hillsdale College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Jerry married his high school sweetheart, the former Mary E. Curran, and they were constant and devoted companions for 52 years until she passed in 2014. Throughout life they were each other's best friend, champion and caretaker. Jerry retired as Vice President of Finance from Energy Erectors, Inc. of Leesburg, Florida after over 20 years of service. In his early life he was an accomplished athlete and his love of sports continued as a spectator and Green Bay Packer fan. After retiring, he left his home in Mount Dora, FL. to be closer to his beloved granddaughter, Ivy, and enjoyed cheering her on at her soccer games. He also had a love of the outdoors and family; returning to the U.P. to spend time and laughs with his brothers and many beloved in-laws and other family members. Jerry is survived by his three children, Mary Jo (Schinderle) Leonardo of Sarasota, FL., Dean Schinderle of Punta Gorda, FL., and Sara (Schinderle) Gudmundsen of Port Charlotte, FL.; his very special grandchild Ivy Gudmundsen; his 2 brothers, Raymond (Donna) Schinderle and Robert (Martha) Schinderle; several dear aunts, including a very special one, Lena Marulli; beloved brothers in-law, sisters in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his memory.
