IRON MOUNTAIN - George Leo Vincent Jr., 72, of Iron Mountain, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, under the tender care of the Golden Living Center surrounded by his family. George was born Oct. 27, 1936, in Trout Lake. He was the son of the late George Sr. and Helen (Vertz) Vincent-Mills. George was employed as a line handler with the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, and later owned and operated the G & J Restaurant in Hulbert, and the G & J Truck Stop Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie before moving to Iron Mountain. In Iron Mountain, he was employed at Nelson Paint in Kingsford and later worked as a truck driver with Fleetwood in Spaulding. He married the former Jean C. Betterly on June 20, 1961, in Brimley. Together they raised seven children. He is survived by, his wife of 49 years, Jean; sons, George III (Jeanna) Vincent of Monroe, Mich., Raymond (Pam McKerchie) Vincent of Newberry, Aaron (Carol ) Vincent of Niagara, Wis., and Scott (Alina) Vincent of Iron Mountain; daughter, Carmen (Armando) Vincent of Loretto; grandchildren, Rachel (Bill) Wicklund, Melissa Vincent, Rick Vandenhouten Jr., Stacy (Sean) Kamin, Katie (Larry) Custila, Lisa, Samantha, Heather, Aaron Jr., Andrew, Tabitha, Emily, Christopher, Paige and Ray-Ray Vincent; great-grandchildren, Sidney Wicklund and Sean Jr. Kamin; a brother, Raymond (Annie) Vincent; sisters, Irene, Donna and Virginia; sister-in- law, Mary Vincent; brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Shirley Lehto; and brother-in-law, Clinton Betterly. George was preceded in death by his son, Keith; a brother, Louis Vincent; brother-in-law, Daniel "Chuck" Bennett;, stepfather, Russell Mills; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Kenneth and Elsie Betterly; and a sister-in-law, Valerie Betterly. George enjoyed his life and living it his way. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and farming. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. James Chinery will officiate.
