George Peterson

"George Peterson" IRON MOUNTAIN - George Norman Peterson, 76, of Santa Barbara, Calif., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003. He was born May 27, 1926, in Iron Mountain. George or "Norm" as he was frequently called by family and close friends, worked for Delco Electronics, General Motors for 30 years, both in Oak Creek, Wis., and Santa Barbara, Calif., being transferred to Santa Barbara in 1972. He retired from his position as pricing and analysis supervisor in 1986, and had been involved in monthly Delco retirement activities for the past 16 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force for two years before marrying his wife, Ethel in 1947. George was a member of the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain, Milwaukee Covenant Church and the Goleta Community Covenant Church. He was currently involved in a weekly Bible study cell group. He enjoyed his daily walks, family visits and reading. He loved to drive and made many trips to Wisconsin to visit his family. He especially enjoyed drives along the Coast and frequent trips to Solvang. George was a man of integrity. He was extremely organized and ethical. He was a gentle, wise and humble man and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by a young son, Gary Alan, in 1952. George is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ethel; his five children, Bruce and Dale, both of Milwaukee, Paul of Santa Maria, Calif., Mary Isbell of Peoria, Ill., and Ann Montgomery of Modesto, Calif.; his sisters, Arline Keating of Betavia, Ill., and Margaret Galbraith of Niagara, Wis.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Pastor Larry Neargarth will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
