Gary F. VanOss

Spread Eagle Gary F. VanOss, 71, of Spread Eagle, passed away on September 26, 2016, at Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain. Gary was born in Crystal Falls, MI on September 26, 1945, son of Floyd and the late Marie (McGregor) VanOss. He was a 1963 graduate of Channing High School. After his graduation, Gary served his electrical apprenticeship with the Milwaukee Road Railroad. He moved around while pursuing his trade and served in the National Guard Reserve. He returned to this area and later to Spread Eagle. Gary worked many years for the IBEW local 219 and served as the Electrical Inspector for Iron County for several years. Gary was an avid sports fan. He was the manager of the Channing Railroaders Wishigan baseball team for most of the 1970's. He loved golf and was a longtime member of Pine Grove Country Club. Gary was a serious Green Bay Packer fan and follower. He also enjoyed deer hunting season and the good times spent at the family camp "Camp 6 Pack". He loved and will be missed by his faithful dogs, Akita and Chipper. In addition to his mother, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara and his daughter, Jennifer He is survived by his sons, Paul (Kelly) VanOss of Southgate, MI, Chris (Barb Spigarelli) VanOss of Fort Smith, Arkansas; sisters, Joanne Dennis of Iron Mountain, Janet (Roger) Roell of Channing and Jean (Angelo) Bortolini of Kewaunee,WI; grandchildren, Ryan (Candice) VanOss, Brandon (Jenny) VanOss, Jennifer VanOss, Jacob, Josie and Trenton VanOss;great grandson, Josh VanOss. also by the mother of his children, Judy VanOss and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2016 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home from 3:00pm-6:00pm. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate. The family wishes to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Uncle Angelo Bortolini and Bobby Peterson who both donated a kidney to help prolong Gary's life. Also to his caregiver Judy Peterson who was always available to help, and John McCole for getting Gary's house ready for him to come home too.
