G. Donald Eyers

G. Donald Eyers, 91, of Iron Mountain passed away Friday, April 3, 2015 at Hyland Nursing Home. Don was born December 8, 1923 in Crandon, Wisconsin, the son of the late Charles Eyers and Mary Eyers Arnold. He attended the Kingsford school system fulfilling the cheerleading position. He was a proud US Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Casablanca and Solomons. Upon his honorable discharge Don returned to Iron Mountain. On February 28, 1948 Don married the love of his life, Patricia Fayas, at the First Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. That special bond grew through the years and they recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Through the years, Don worked a variety of management jobs with the Red Owl Food Corp and the VA Hospital. He was one of the favorite bartenders at the Historic Dickinson Hotel and also the Riverside Supper Club in Iron Mountain. In 1963 Don, Pat, and family moved to Madison, Wisconsin where he worked at the historic Simon House, the Maple Bluff Country Club and he eventually retired from Kraft Foods (Oscar Mayer) Corp. in Madison. To enjoy their retirement Don and Pat moved to Green Valley, Arizona where they lived for 12 years, enjoying the sunshine. To be closer to family Don and Pat moved back to Iron Mountain in 2004 and enjoyed their friendships and relatives in the area. In his early days Don was an accomplished ice skater and skated in many of the area’s ice shows. He was an excellent dancer and enjoyed teaching his daughter how to dance. Hunting and fishing, enjoying nature, and loving animals were all a part of Don’s life. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed the Packers, liked cars and even restored a few. Don was a real people person and developed many strong friendships in his life. He was a member of the Elks Club, the VFW, the American Legion, and the UTC. Don is survived by his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Linda Eyers (Mark Sweet) of Wisconsin Dells, WI; a son, Randall Eyers (Maria) of Milwaukee, WI; two grandchildren, Andrea Norgard (Andy) of Madison, WI and Ben Eyers (Ruth) of Milwaukee, WI; a grand dog, Lucy; and three great grandchildren, Phoebe and Cecelia Norgard and Finnegan Eyers. In addition he leaves behind a brother, Calvin (Joyce) Eyers of Iron Mountain and a sister, Eloise (Pinky) Larsen of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; a sister-in-law, Beverly Carollo of Iron Mountain; brothers-in-law Gene Carollo of Iron Mountain and Louis DeWinter of Green Bay, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary; two sisters, LaVerne Mongrain and Ila DeWinter; and one brother, Kenneth Eyers. The family would like to extend their warmest thank you to the Hyland Nursing Home staff for their loving care and support given to Don and his family. In addition the family acknowledges the outstanding care and special friendships of Maureen (Mo) Paquin, Cheryl Fuse, and his niece Kayanne Timbrook. Visitation will be held Friday, April 10th from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
