Francis Turk

Francis "Frank" Turk, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Allouez Parkside Village in Green Bay, WI. He was born on August 6, 1920 in Hibbing, MN to the late John and Helen (Mikulich) Turk. When Frank was six years old his father died in a mining accident.After graduating from Hibbing High School in 1938, Frank joined the Civilian Conservation Corp #717 of Side Lake, MN. There he developed a deep appreciation of discipline, hard work and love for the woods. Following his CCC training he worked for Snyder Mining Co., before serving his country in the U.S. Navy. After the war he worked for Ocean Spray in Chicago and Range Motors on the Minnesota Range. He married Mary Jayne Scarsella on October 5, 1957 and they had four children. In 1960 he moved to Green Bay and began working for Texaco. In 1963 he moved to Iron Mountain and continued working for Texaco, covering the upper peninsula as a district sales supervisor. After his retirement from Texaco, he worked for Champion, Inc. and Nelson Paint Co. as a salesman. He truly enjoyed walking and all the co-workers, business acquaintances and friends he made along the way. He was an active member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Church where he served as greeter, reader and counter. He also served on the Iron Mountain Zoning Board for several years. Frank was known for many things including his garden, hunting with Tony O, planting and nurturing trees, walking over Millie Hill, dog lover, sharing candy with clerks and bank staff. He enjoyed being the family "clipping service" to dispense advise about health, car care and finances. Frank increased family and friends knowledge of the national debt by his continued awareness of it via his update notices. He always wanted to give and be useful to others. He is survived by children, Mary Beth (Chet) Bergstrom of Green Bay, WI, Joe (Ida) Turk of Pasadena, CA, Anne Marie (Bruce) Maylath of Fargo, ND, and Rebecca (Ken) Martin of Appleton, WI; his five grandchildren, Laura (Joel) Bosacki, Peter Bergstrom, Melissa Bergstrom, Nolan Martin and Lucia Martin; and he was happy to have shared six months with his great-grandson, Miles Bosacki. He is further survived by a sister, Helen Turk; sister-in-law Elaine Turk; nephew John Turk; and niece Jean Johnson; brother-in-law Rudy Senich and nephews, Peter and Rudy Senich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jayne, in 1993; his brother, Henry Turk; sister-in-law, Angie Senich; niece, Baraba Senich; and nephew, Steve Senich. The final years of Frank's life were lived at Allouez Parkside Village in Green Bay where the staff and his friends (especially Lorraine) brought him love and care. Those years also included adventures with Mary Beth, most notably watching the Zippin Pippin roller coaster at Bay Beach. She will forever cherish these days. The family would like to thank his longtime neighbors, Joe and Mary Spigarelli, for their watch care as well as his many friends who shared life with him. We pray you have memories to make you smile just as we do. "Stay between the ditches," as Frank would say. Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 15th from 9:30-11:30 at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church in Iron Mountain.Funeral services will follow at 11:30 Friday at the church.Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian burial.Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
