Floyd Sigurd Olson

Floyd Sigurd Olson, 86, of Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2014. He was born September 23, 1927, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, son of the late Sigurd and Hildur (Pearson) Olson. He was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1945. He married Marian Despins on February 7, 1948, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2007. Floyd served in U. S. Army from 1946 to 1947. Floyd worked at the Niagara Paper Mill for 42 years, retiring in 1989. He was an active member of the Homestead Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Floyd leaves his two sons, Ronald (Rita) of South Bend, Indiana and Dennis (Sally) of Kingsford; three grandchildren, Hope (Scott) Rood of LaPorte, Indiana, Jeff (Erika) Olson of Appleton, Wisconsin and Brian (Kristi) Olson of Norway, Michigan; his very special friend, Gerri Weber of Aurora and her family; two sisters-in-law, Carol Ryan (Howard Skogman) of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and Virginia Olson of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; two brothers-in-law, Leo "Joe" Despins of Iron Mountain, Michigan, and Thomas Despins of Superior, Wisconsin. He is further survived by five great grandchildren, Emma Leigh and Erica Atwater, Isaac and Cassandra Olson and Anika Olson and 2 step great grandchildren, Alex and Laurel Rood, as well as many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Vernon Olson as well as three brothers-in-law James, Robert, and Kenneth Despins and four sisters-in-law Lona Despins, Luella Despins, Eleanor Despins, and Shirley Despins. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:00am on Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Pastor Rick Malone from the Homestead Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
