Florence June Butterfield

SPREAD EAGLE, WI - Florence June Butterfield, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on May 30, 1934 in Tacoma, WA, Florence was the 4th daughter of Keith Garnet Olive Sr. and Dessie Marie Cooper. In the early years, Florence and her family of ten were migrant farmers that followed the crop harvests all along the West Coast. As they finally decided to put down roots, the Olive's moved in 1955, to Florence County, WI, to a farm adjacent to Butterfield property. Florence met and married the neighbor's son, Darold, and the young couple made their home on the Butterfield Farm off of Old Highway 69 in Spread Eagle. They raised their seven children while Florence worked alongside her husband throughout most of their 58 year marriage: farming, logging, landscaping, and more. She learned to weave rag rugs from her mother-in-law and made hundreds of beautiful rugs on the looms that Darold built for her. In their later years, the couple could be found at craft shows throughout the area selling an assortment of handcrafted items that they both created. Florence enjoyed baking pies for friends and neighbors; traveling, especially to the redwoods; and, trying her luck at the casino. She followed a lifetime of sharing her joy and loving spirit with others. Florence was preceded in death by her husband. and her parents, along with four sisters: Barbara Jean Olive, Dorothy Louise Olive, Mildred (Willard) Taff, and Helen (Roy) Taff; and one daughter-in-law, Dolores (Sanderson) Butterfield. Survivors of Florence include: two brothers, Keith (Lois) Olive Jr., and Clyde (Dianne) Olive; one sister, Betty Karle; four sons, Michael (Mary) Butterfield, Jack (Sarah) Butterfield, Bob (Michele) Butterfield, and, Bill (Linda) Butterfield; three daughters, Donna (Russ) Malinowski, Margie (Ron) Yadro, and, Nancy (Mark) Gomez; 19 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. Florence also enjoyed lifelong friendships with Patricia Waugh and Sue Hazelwood. The children of Florence Butterfield invite those who wish to celebrate their mother's life with them to a family picnic starting at 1 PM on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the original Butterfield home off Old Highway 69 in Spread Eagle.
