Ethelyn Swanson

QUINNESEC - Ethelyn J. Swanson, 86, of Quinnesec, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Edward and Hanna (Larson) Nordman. Ethelyn lived for a number of years in lower Michigan, but spent most of her life in Quinnesec. She graduated from high school in Quinnesec in 1939, and then went on to business school. She worked for a time at the Iron Mountain employment office and also at the bomber plant in Ypsilanti, Mich. in the early 1940s. Ethelyn married Harry Swanson on Dec. 7, 1943, in Saline, Mich. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Quinnesec and it was her strong faith in God that helped carry her trough her entire life. Ethelyn liked to read, crochet and was an avid crossword puzzle solver. She loved being with family and spent her life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves her husband, Harry; a son, Steven (Beverly) Swanson and a daughter, Peggy (Gene) Ireland, all of Quinnesec; three grandsons, Michael, Kevin and Scott; four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Alexandria, Simone and Sheyna; a sister, Bette Reihman of Florida and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Arthur Nordman and a sister, Helga Parsons. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Quinnesec. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Rev.Stephen Cowen will officiate. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Swanson, Michael Ireland, Kevin Ireland, Ken Wilcox, Paul Ward, and Ernest Peterson. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be set up in Ethelyn's name at Calvary Lutheran Church. A very special thank you to Dr. Loewen, to the respiratory therapists and all the nurses on the second floor medical a Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
