Emma S. Johnson

Emma Sitka Johnson, 91, of Kingsford, formerly of Channing, MI died Monday, April 25, 2016 at Manorcare Health Care Services in Kingsford. She was born December 10, 1924 in Calderwood, MI. Emma graduated from the Channing High School in 1942. She married Alvin “Bud” Sitka on October 16, 1943. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1995. Emma married Roy Johnson on August 14, 2001. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2015. Emma worked as a cook for the Channing schools and for the North Dickinson Schools for 14 years. She also cooked at Camp Molinare and was involved there for 25 years. Emma was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder and deacon. She also taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. She is survived by 4 sons, John (Judy) Sitka of Kentwood, MI, Carl (Kathy) Sitka of Weston, WI, Leonard (Elizabeth) Sitka of Brighton, MI, and Walter Sitka (Cindy) of Arkansas, WI; 3 step children, Ron Johnson (Shannon McKindles) of Merriman, MI, Glen Johnson of Plainfield, WI, and Patricia Hiatt of Albion, MI; 12 grandchildren, Laura (Kevin) Hausch, John (Linsey) Sitka, Julie (Brian) Cook, Pamela Sitka (Glenn), Carolyn (David) Tomashek, Debra (Matt) Huland, Karen (Kyle) Graf, Sarah (Adam) Hartung, Kimberly (Howard) Morrow, Brian Sitka (Mallory), Amelio Sitka and Aloha (Dakota) Montgomery; 17 greatgrandchildren; 1 half sister, Betty Burgess. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Harold, Arthur, Walter, and Leonard Swanson; 4 sisters, Hope Witters, Ruth Process, Florence Soens, and Alva Simondsen,; also preceded in death by 2 half sisters, Norma Klucarich and Audrey Momont and 1 half brother, Sonny Simondsen. Friends may call from 10-11 am Friday at the Grace Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday at the church. Rev. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Channing Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grace Presbyterian Church. A special thanks goes out from Emma’s family to the family of Roy Johnson.
