Elizabeth "Betty" Welcher

Elizabeth (Betty) J. Welcher, 84, of Iron Mountain, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Hyland Nursing Home. She was born on July 8, 1927, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Bert and Linda (Geromel) Carollo. Elizabeth attended Kingsford Public Schools graduating in 1946. She married the late Samuel A. Welcher at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on June 27, 1953. Betty worked at Hancock Wood Products and after retirement she worked part-time at the hardware store in Niagara. She was a very loyal and hard worker and instilled this in her children the value of education, hard work, the importance of family, and faith in our heavenly Father. She also had a respect for traditional values which she passed onto her children and grandchildren. Betty always had a smile and never complained about anything. She had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Betty was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a wonderful and loyal wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking baking and making ceramics for her family. She also enjoyed going on trips with her sisters and friends. Betty enjoyed spending quality time with her two sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and her great-grandson. She always looked forward to family functions and spending time with her family and her two sisters and brother-in-law. She is survived by two children, Jeff (Mary Ellen) Welcher of Iron Mountain and Greg (Tammy) Welcher of Rockton, Ill.; five grandchildren, Tyler and Kimberly of Iron Mountain, and Sabina, Samantha and Nick of Rockton and one great-grandchild, Hayden Skoglund of Kingsford; two sisters, Delores (late Richard) Nocerini and Eleanor (Paul) Larson of Iron Mountain and one sister-in-law, Barbara Carollo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Welcher; her mother and father, Linda and Bert Carollo; her brother, Ernest Carollo; her niece, Bonnie Nocerini (Mapps); and her very special aunt and uncle, Susie and Frank Tondin. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 pm to 5 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Msgr. James Kaczmarek will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samuel Welcher Memorial Scholarship.
