Douglas G. Gooding

Douglas G. Gooding, 87, of East Kingsford, died Thurs. April 20, 2017 at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. He was born on June 20, 1929, in Wabeno, WI, the son of the late Harry and Hattie (Jacobs) Gooding. Doug served as a mechanic in the US Air Force from 1948-1952. Upon returning from the service, he worked on the track maintenance crew for the Milwaukee Road Railroad for twenty eight and a half years. He lived in Trout Creek, Big Bay, and Sagola Township before settling in Kingsford. He was a member of the Carpenter-Clash American Legion Post #363. Doug played fast pitch softball and pitched a perfect game He also enjoyed bowling, switching from a right handed bowler to a left handed bowler. Doug was a dedicated father and enjoyed spending time with his daughter Terri. The two of them enjoyed eating meals at local restaurants and getting to know the people they met there. Everyone who knew Doug would say he was a kind and loving man who was witty funny, and like cracking jokes. He was an avid baseball fan and a lifelong New York Yankees fan. Doug was also known as a "Bluegrass Nut", who love listening to his cds and particularly liked the fiddle. Doug married Ann Cootware Stebbins in October of 1966 in Wisconsin. She preceded him in death in 2000. He is survived by his daughter Terri Lynn Gooding of East Breitung, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Doug was preceded by a daughter Lori Gooding, three brothers Louis (Vivian) Gooding, Ronald (Barbara, Nancy) Gooding, and Gene (Nancy) Gooding, and eight sisters Ethel (Claude) Johnson, Laura (Melvin) Johnson, Norma (Henry "Hank"Porte, Carlie) Greer, Tressa (Robert) Drager, Lucille Gooding, Enid (Vernon) Federspiel, Evelyn Gooding, and Fern (F. Thomas) LaBine. Funeral services will be Saturday May 6, 2017 at 4pm at Grace Baptist Church, 1295 Pyle Dr., Kingsford. Carl Bishop will officiate. A supper will follow at the church.
