Doris Knudsen

Doris Ann Knudsen, 80, of Kingsford, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 31, 2012, surrounded by her family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born November 15, 1931, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Edward and Grace (Carlson) Chapman. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1950 and was a lifelong resident of the area. She married Herbert Knudsen on April 17, 1954 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Doris was employed as a secretary for several years with the WI/MI Power Co. She also worked as a receptionist at the Dickinson Inn followed by 20 years of service at the Cable Company. Doris was a liver transplant survivor since August of 1988. Besides being a member of Our Saviour's, she was a member of Pine Grove Country Club where she loved to golf. Gardening, reading and baking were also hobbies she enjoyed. She was a dedicated Flivver fan, attending all home and away football games with her husband. Spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much happiness. Surviving are her husband, Herb of Kingsford; one son, Jon of Breitung Township; two daughters, Kathy (Donn) Edwards of Kingsford and Laura Brodersen of Iron Mountain; one sister, Betty Hosking of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Kary Edwards, Josh (Sam) Edwards, Megan Clows, Danielle (James) Perri and Derek Knudsen; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Grace Chapman; a grandson, Jacob Edwards; a brother, Myron Chapman; and a sister, Marjorie Uren. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at noon. Rev. Steve Cowen will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be Josh Edwards, Derek Knudsen, David, Gerald, and Tom Christesen, and Kevin West.
