Dolores F. Smeester

Dolores Frances Smeester, 89, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI. The daughter of Karl M. Jacobs and Gertrude Bierstaker Smeester, was born April 18, 1927 in Pembine, WI. She married Joseph Glenn Smeester, son of Jule & Fay Smeester, May 25, 1951, while Joe was serving in the Navy in Key West, FL. Dee, as she was known by, graduated from Amberg High School on May 25, 1945. She was a member of St. Mary’s Queen Church in Kingsford Heights, MI. She loved to sing and was a choir member for many years. She was the greatest Wife, Mom, Grandma, and Great- Grandma anyone could ever ask for. Any that knew her understood the love and compassion that Dee had for her family, friends and in life. She was so deeply loved and cherished by her family, and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband and two children, Joseph Smeester, Jr. and Jeanna (Steve) Kakuk both of Iron Mountain, MI, two grandchildren Audry (Beau) Poquette & Steve (Rose) Kakuk IV both of Iron Mountain, MI, four great-grandchildren, Will David Poquette, Rylee Jean Poquette, Logan Couillard, & Matthew Couillard, one half sister Roseann (H. Howard) Anderson of Wausaukee, WI, two half brothers Ron (Joan) Jacobs of Gladstone, MI, and Kris (Shirley) Jacobs of Ellison Bay, WI. Along with her parents and step father George Smeester, she was preceded in death by a step sister Marion Stephenson of Tacoma, Washington, step brothers George Smeester, Jr. of LaPorte, Indiana, Tom Smeester of Denver, CO, half sister Joan Brinker of Mt. Morris, IL, half brothers Francis Jacobs, of Sun City West, AZ, Barry Jacobs, Mt. Morris, IL and David Jacobs, Morgan, IL. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 700 pm at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 600 Marquette Blvd, Kingsford, MI. Fr. Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
