Deloris Carlson

On Saturday, August 7, 2011, God took our beloved Deloris Carlson of Foster City to live with Him in Heaven, while she peacefully slept. Deloris was born on January 26, 1927 in Escanaba, MI, daughter of the late Earl and Clara (Swanson) Varney. Deloris married her childhood sweetheart and best friend, Wallace Carlson, on February 26, 1949 in an evening candlelit ceremony at the Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Deloris was a lifelong resident of the Foster City area, where she was known for singing with her sister Marie (Varney) Larson. In the 1940’s they could be heard on the local radio stations of the Iron Mountain area as well as stations in Chicago. Deloris also made singing presentations at the Norway Fair, at business meetings and was frequently seen playing her guitar and singing at many church functions. Her love for music also led her to play the accordion & tambourine and even some yodeling. In 1974, Deloris received her LPN degree, for she always took care of those she loved so dearly. Deloris was an active member of the Mission Covenant Church where she was part of the ladies aid group for many years, helping to serve the community. Things that brought her joy in life were spending time with family and friends, traveling, camping, cooking, baking, planting flowers and gardening. Deloris is survived by two sons, Don (Sue) Carlson and Robert “Bob” Carlson, both of Foster City; a brother, Dale (Betty) Varney of Escanaba; son-in-law, Jerry Steele of Escanaba; grandchildren, Jim (Michelle) Steele of Traverse City, Tammy (Mark) Winling of Gladstone, Shawna Fletcher of Green Bay, Amanda (Jim) Thoune of Foster City and Sarah (Adam) Lucas of Felch; great grandchildren, James Steele, Breanna and Lexi Winling, Kyle and Landen Fletcher, Brandie, Shane, Brendan Smith; Baileigh, Makayla Thone, and Dylan Lucas; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Deloris was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace Carlson in 1988; a beautiful daughter, Connie Steele; her best friend and sister, Marie Larson; and two caring brothers, Laverne and Donnie Varney. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00am until 12:00 noon at the Mission Covenant Church in Foster City. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon at the church. Rev. Carl Hammer will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Deloris L.
