Darrel D. Rose

Darrel D. Rose, 86, of Kingsford, passed away on July 30, 2016, at his home. Darrel was born in Kingsford, MI on September 28, 1929, son of the late Clifford and Nellie (Ewer) Rose. He attended school in this area and in 1949 entered the United States Army. He married Charlotte Rigoni on January 30, 1956 while stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Darrel was stationed for twelve years in Germany and after serving for twenty years with the Army, retired as a Staff Sergeant in 1972. He and Charlotte returned to this area following his retirement. Darrel was a member of the American Legion and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed walking and being outdoors. Darrel had a green thumb and always took pride in his vegetable and flower gardens. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, as well as a good friend to all those he knew. In addition to his parents, Darrel was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte in 2008; five brothers, Clifford, Vernon, Larry, Gerald and Richard Rose and two sisters, Donna VanOuDenhoven and Beverly Hansen. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Rose of Iron Mountain, Dean (Robin) Rose of Iron Mountain, Brenda (Kent) Aderman of Kingsford and Wanda (Rick) Sherman of Iron Mountain; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Eric) VandenHeuvel, Daniele (Nathan) Ruble, Derek Rose, Dacia Rose, Devon (Daniel Rushford) Rose, Garrett Aderman, Caitlin Aderman, Joshua Sherman and Ian Sherman; six great grandchildren, Luke, Abigail, Ashlyn, Miley, Emma and Kennedy; and a sister, Marlene Towns of Niagara, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the Kingsford Funeral Home in Kingsford from 9:00am-10:30am. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am on Thursday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Father Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Pallbearers will be his six grandsons (Eric VandenHeuvel, Ian Sherman, Derek Rose, Garrett Aderman, Nathan Ruble, and Luke Ruble). The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post #50 will conduct military graveside honors.
