Danny Austin Davis

Danny Austin Davis, 62, of Iron Mountain, died Wed. Aug. 9, 2017 at home. He was born on August 16, 1954 in Birmingham, Ala, the son of the late Lonnie and Margie (Martin) Davis. He was the youngest of eight children. Danny was raised by his sister Sandra upon the early deaths of their parents. After graduation, Danny enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. He served our nation from 1971-1976 as a helicopter power and engine mechanic. During his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and was awarded the M-16 Expert Medal. After his honorable discharge, Danny made his life in Chicago as a carpenter in the 839th Carpenters Union. He was blessed to father four children Daniel, David, Amanda, and Jennifer. He was a wonderful stepfather to Charly (Mayra) West and the beloved grandfather to his grandbabies Jessi and Mia West. In 2003, he married the love of his life, Karen Peano. They were wed in a little white chapel in Nevada on Feb. 21, 2003. Danny enjoyed golf, both playing and watching his favorite players. On any given Saturday in the fall, Danny could be found cheering for Alabama "Roll Tide"! He was also an avid NASCAR fan and bull riding enthusiast. Danny was known for his sense of humor. He was a Southern Baptist, "which is different from a regular Baptist"! Having a huge love for his family, Danny always did whatever he could to help out. From watching the kids, to loaning his car, or just being a listening ear. He truly had a huge kind heart. Danny leaves behind the love of his life; his moon and stars, his wife of fourteen years, Karen. He also leaves his sisters Sandra Fulton, Gloria Lee, and Sally Hill, brothers Leon, Larry, Lonnie Jr., and Guy Davis, sisters-in-law Jean Peano, Liza Heidtman, Chris (Rich) Chaffee, and Becky (Keith) Monarch, brother-in-law Tom Peano, and several nieces and nephews, including his favorite nieces Hope Raylin and Allana Michelle. Graveside services will be held on Wed. Aug. 16, 2017 at Cemetery Park at 11 am. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post #50. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Danny Davis online atwww.ernashfuneralhomes.com.
