Clifford Mercier

NIAGARA - Clifford Henry Mercier, 84, of Niagara, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara. He was born April 29, 1922, in Nadeau, the oldest of seven children of the late Henry and Ida (King) Mercier. Clifford graduated from Kingsford High School in 1940. He served with the U.S. Army and the Civilian Conservation Corps. Clifford married Rita Jane Poquette on Sept. 19, 1942, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1982. He then married Jane Neuens and she also preceded him in death. He lived in Chicago for 26 years, returning to the area in 1970. Clifford worked as a carpenter for many years, spending several of those years with Dickinson Homes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a very faithful member of American Martyrs Catholic Church. Clifford was a very skilled craftsman who enjoyed making arts and crafts and going to shows. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to country western music and he loved to dance. Clifford is survived by two daughters, Darlene (Jerry) Snider of Tomah, Wis. and Diane (William) Rademacher of Hillsboro, Ill.; a brother, Adrian Mercier of Plant City, Fla.; two sisters, Rose Mercier Olson of Iron Mountain and Sister Jean Rene Mercier of Marquette; four grandchildren, Diana Grover, Dina (Darrell) Schultz, Deborah (Demian) Podis and Michael (Michelle) Rademacher; six great-grandchildren, Ross and Brynn Grover, Mason, Amanda and Chase Rademacher and Cole Podis; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur, Elmer and Rev. Henry L. Mercier, a priest of the Marquette Diocese. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at noon on Tuesday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jerry Snider, William Rademacher, Darrell Schultz, and Rodney, Bruce and Marty Olson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Martyrs Catholic Church.
