Clarence "Putsie" Baker

Clarence A. “Putsie” Baker, 75, of Quinnesec, died Sat. May 14, 2011. He was born on Aug. 31, 1935 in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Clarence K. and Signe C. (Thunell) Baker. Clarence graduated from Kingsford High School in 1953. He was a welder at Lakeshore, Inc. for over thirty-two years and then at Customer Metals until his retirement. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Breitung Township Volunteer Fire Department. Putsie enjoyed golfing and was a member at Oak Crest Golf Course. He was actively involved in baseball. He played ball for the Kingsford Cardinals and also played softball. For over thirty years he coached baseball in Quinnesec. He also enjoyed snowmobiling. Putsie served as the union president for the United Steelworkers at Lakeshore and had served on the board at the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Federal Credit Union. He was a member of the First Covenant Church, where he had been an usher. Putsie was a mentor to many children and was a major influence in his grandchildren’s lives. He was a proud father and grandfather, who was truly loved by his family. He is survived by three children Terry Baker of Niagara, Karen (Scott) St. Peter of Lake Linden-Hubbell, and Mark (Debbie) Baker of Seymour, WI, 6 grandchildren Bryon (Heather) Baker of West Bend, WI, Whitney (Robbie Recla) Baker of Green Bay, Chris (Jessica) Zablocki of Port Washington, WI, Casey (Kayla McCormick) Zablocki of Denver, CO, Cyle Zablocki of Lake Linden-Hubbell, and Thomas Baker of Green Bay, two great granddaughters, Romilly Clare and Vienna Grace Baker, and another great granddaughter due in July. He has a surviving sister Alice (Oliver) Nygard of Quinnesec, a sister-in-law Polly Baker of San Antonio, a favorite niece Cheryl (Joe) Gardipee of Norway, a special aunt Evelyn Thunell of Quinnesec and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Putsie was preceded in death by his brother Willard Baker and his special uncle Ernest Thunell. Visitation will be Wed. from 4-7pm at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 7pm Wed. at the funeral home. Rev. Rodney A. Johnson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established to encourage and aspire junior golfers.
