Carol Lee Muraro

Carol L. Muraro, 90, of Iron Mountain passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at Freeman’s Nursing Home of Kingsford. She was born in Milwaukee, WI, on September 18, 1932, daughter of the late Wade and Josephine (Baga) Hayward. Carol was a 1950 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. Following High School, she became a registered Radiologic Technologist. On July 2, 1960, Carol married Nicholas Muraro at First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford, MI. Carol worked as a Radiologic Technologist for 14 years at Memorial Hospital, and later, joined her parents and worked at Hayward Interiors as an interior decorator. She had a passion for music and singing. That talent was shared through the First Presbyterian Church Choir and by bringing great joy to the many nursing home residents she sang for with Smile-a-While local singing group. She volunteered her time at the American Cancer Association. In her most recent years she enjoyed learning to play the harmonica. Carol never missed a birthday, holiday, or any other special family occasion, especially for her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as loving, loyal, caring, creative, and thoughtful. After sharing over 55 years together, Nick preceded her in death on March 25, 2016. Carol is survived by a brother-in-law, Michael Muraro (Ann Marie); sisters-in-law, Betty Stachowicz, Rosalie Dallapiazza, and several nieces and nephews; and her close friends, Arletta Meysembourg and Pauline Brouillette. In addition to her husband and parents, Carol is preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Angeline and Feruccio Muraro; brothers-in-law, Roy Muraro, Roman Stachowicz, and Louis Dallapiazza; and a sister-in-law, Rose Mary Muraro. A private graveside service will be held in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park at a later date. For the past 5 years, Carol’s wish to stay in her home was possible due to the dedicated and loving care provided by Amanda Schuirmann and Erika Sleeter. They rendered patience, tenderness, and friendship. A profound thank you to them, the staff at Freeman’s Nursing Home, and Dr. VanLaanen for their expert care, compassion, and support.
