Carl Krokstrom

Carl I. "Cookie" Krokstrom, 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain. He was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Norway, son of the late Axel and Hanna (Lindquist) Krokstrom. He attended the Iron Mountain Schools and was a lifelong resident of the area. Cookie was a U.S. veteran serving his country in the Merchant Marines. He married Marjorie Tippett on Sept. 28, 1946, at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2005. Cookie was a truck driver, heavy equipment operator and foreman for the city of Iron Mountain for 39 years, retiring as the sexton of Cemetery Park in 1983. He was an active and dedicated member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3674 in Iron Mountain and the 40 et 8 organization. Cookie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to camp. He also enjoyed woodworking, singing, playing piano, cooking, traveling, and spending many winters in Florida with his wife, Marge. He is survived by two sons, Douglas (Julia) Krokstrom of Iron Mountain and James (Debbie) Krokstrom of Niagara, Wis.; grandchildren, Terri (David) Castelaz of Vulcan, Kevin (Melissa) Krokstrom of Oshkosh, Wis., Melissa (Adam) Richeal of Grand Haven, lower Michigan, Josh (Jenny) Derouin of Oconto Falls, Wis., Mark Derouin of Greenwood, S.C., Jamie Krokstrom of Iron Mountain, Matt Krokstrom of Green Bay, Wis., Michelle (Zack) Sparks of Santa Rosa, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Cassie and Marcus Treiber, Payton and Tessa Castelaz, Mackenzie, Cooper and Parker Krokstrom, Sam and Drew Nowack, Andrew and Taylor Derouin, Milo Wickman, Ronin and Tyler Sparks; nieces and nephews; many relatives in Sweden; his side companion, Kelly; good friend, Larry Duford of Iron Mountain and all his friends at the VFW. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Krokstrom; a daughter, Kathy Derouin; a brother, Arvid Krokstrom; a sister, Eleanor Krokstrom and a brother-in-law, Douglas "Tip" Tippett. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate. Burial will be in Cemetery Park in Iron Mountain.
