Bernadine Moland

Bernadine “Bernie” Franklin Moland passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Freeman’s Nursing Home in Kingsford, MI. Bernadine was born December 8, 1946, to the late Harvey and Anne (Rimicci) Franklin in Chicago, IL. On April 16th, 1966, Bernadine married Donald Moland. In the summer of 1975, Don and Bernadine moved their family from the Chicago area to Homestead, WI. Bernie was the face and voice of The Advertiser from 1975 to 2012. She is fondly remembered for her humor and quick wit. She loved music and musicals; she participated in the Dickinson County Theater Group for many years. In the more recent past she shared her life with her dogs, Buffy and Ellie, and her cats, Keko and Liv, who brought her much joy. Bernadine is survived by her ex-husband, Donald Moland of Ocala, Fl; her daughter, Michelle (Angiolo Brilli) of Green Bay, and her son, Brian (Jody Peterson) of Kingsford, MI; her aunt and godmother, Angeline Rimicci of Chicago, IL; her siblings, Ken (Diane) Franklin of Downers Grove, IL, Ron (Jean) Franklin of Downers Grove, IL, Debbie (Craig) Lind of Homestead, WI, and sister-in-law, Betty (Russ) Franklin of De Pere, WI. Bernadine was the proud aunt of Glen (Marcia) Franklin of Green Bay, WI, Ken (Joan) Franklin of Winona, MN, Amy (Jeff) Hoaglund of Green Bay, WI, Garrett Franklin of Oconto Falls, WI, John (Rima) Franklin of Downers Grove, IL, Denise Lind of Niagara, WI, Rebecca (Doug) Wollin of Lake Mills, WI, Travis (Rachael) Franklin of Batavia, IL, Mark Lind of Homestead, WI, Zach (Emily) Franklin of Peoria, IL, and Ellie (Chris) Grice of Denton, TX. She is also survived by many cousins, great nieces and nephews, Angiolo’s children, Luca (Liz Barnum) Brilli of Boulder, CO, and Francesca Brilli of Chicago, IL, and her grand-pups Tank, Wrigley, and Willow. Bernie will be missed by many friends, especially her colleagues and connections from her time at The Advertiser and Daily News. Along with her parents Harvey and Anne Franklin, she was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Franklin; sister in-law, Janet Franklin; and brother-in-law, Craig Lind. Thank you to the staff at Freeman’s Nursing Home for all the care provided to Bernadine during the sunset of her life. A celebration of Bernadine’s life will be held at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
