Arlene Turrie

Arlene Hope Turrie died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Alegent Creighton Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Her daughters were by her side at the time of her passing. Arlene was born on June 10, 1938 to Dick and Eda Hansen at St. Joseph's Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. The family moved to north side Iron Mountain and then on to Quinnesec, MI where Arlene spent most of her elementary school years. She was a member of the Girls Athletic Association, was active in the Quinnesec Methodist church, and enjoyed childhood with her life long best friend, Valerie Freeman. The family returned to Milwaukee in 1953 where Arlene graduated from West Division High School in 1956. As an adult, Arlene moved back to MI with her husband Michael Turrie and family. They purchased the M&J Restaurant and ran it until 1979. At this time she also returned to active participation at the Quinnesec United Methodist Church. She developed deep meaningful relationships with many of the staff and congregation at the church. Arlene's education continued, receiving an associates degree at Bay de Noc community college. She moved to NV in 1991 to help her brother Joe with his businesses. Arlene was a family oriented woman through and through. She lived to nurture, comfort, cook for and feed her loved ones. The well being of her siblings, children and grandchildren were always at the forefront of her mind. She was happiest when spending time with family. Arlene's most current residence was in Sparks, NV where she enjoyed helping her neighbors, and taking care of her much adored Schnauzer, Mindy. She was active in bible studies, attended Sparks Christian Fellowship church, and volunteered for the Republican Party. She was passionate about her politics as well as spreading the word of Christ. She spent the last eight years with her fiancé, the love of her life, George Crown. They enjoyed travelling to visit friends and family, movie watching, thrift shopping, but most importantly, worshipping together. Arlene was preceded in death by her mother and father, Gordon Dixon Hansen and Eda Hansen. She is survived by her fiancé, George Crown; daughters, Melissa Sleik, April Turrie and Allison (Joseph) Martini. She also left her precious grandchildren, Vanessa (Jeffrey) Mitchell, Erica Sleik, Tony Sleik and Dominic Martini. She will also be greatly missed by her siblings, Dick (Ann) Hansen, Sharon Gramprie, Joe Hansen and Penny (Lee) Campbell. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Quinnesec United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church. Pastor Walter Reichle will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
