Anne Franklin

HOMESTEAD, Wis. - Anne Rose Franklin, 89, of Homestead, went to be with the Lord and some of her family on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. She was born on March 19, 1917, in Friars Point, Miss., and moved to Chicago where she met and married Harvey J. Franklin on May 22, 1937, at St. Charles Church. Anne attended the Homestead Baptist Church. She belonged to the Over 60 Club, the Widows Club, the Knitting Club, and Prayer Shawl Ministries. She was also a 4-H leader. Maryhill Manor was home to Anne for the last several years, where she became involved with the other residents and was given Volunteer Awards for her service to the Manor. She was an avid knitter and crocheter, who enjoyed and taught her skills to many people. She won numerous awards and ribbons for entries in the Florence County Fair. She will be honored next year by the Florence Fair, with having the "Anne Franklin Best of Show" award being instituted for years to come. Anne appeared in commercials and was heard on the radio talking about her time and experiences while at Maryhill Manor. She knew the residents and staff and cared about them all. She was a contributor of newspaper articles, in which she was concerned about sick children and the state of the country and world. She received numerous cards and letters from people who had read what she wrote, that thanked and blessed her for her views. Anne is survived by her children, Russell (Betty) of Oconto, Wis., Kenneth of Lombard, Ill., Bernadine Moland of Iron Mountain, Ronald (Jean) of Downers Grove, Ill., and Deborah (Craig) Lind of Homestead. She was a loving grandmother to Glen (Marcia), Amy (Vince), Garrett, Kenneth Jr. (Joan), John (Rema), Travis, Zachery, Ellie, Brian, Michelle (Angiolo), Denise (Marc), Rebecca (Doug), and Mark. She also leaves her loving brothers and sister, Mario, Frank, and Angeline and her eight adoring great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey on June 13, 2001; her parents, Leonardo and Dominica (Fili) Rimicci; three brothers, George, John, and Joseph, and two sisters, Mary and Josephine. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Homestead Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Rev. Brad Moore will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery. A celebration of her life luncheon will be held after internment at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maryhill Manor Activities Fund or the Florence County Fair. Condolences may be expressed to the family of Anne R.
