Anna DuFresne

Anna Mae DuFresne, 83, of Bass Lake Road in Breitung Township, passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. Anna was born on May 9, 1927, at home in Aurora, Wis., daughter of the late Albert and Esther (Anderson) Larson. Anna attended grade school in Aurora where she was the first girl to play on the boy's baseball team. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1945. After graduation, she moved to Auburn, Wash., to work at the Seattle Port of Embarkation as a civil service operator. She returned to Iron Mountain to marry Charles DuFresne on Dec. 11, 1946. Anna worked for the Aluminum Specialty in the Ford Plant. She later worked at the Red Owl Store and Ed's Grocery. She and her husband moved from Kingsford to Bass Lake Road in 1965. Anna continued working as the bookkeeper for the family-owned business, DuFresne Construction, for many years. Anna was an avid golfer. She often tested her luck by going to the casino and was very successful winning countless jackpots. Anna loved being outdoors, enjoyed gardening and canning, and was a wonderful cook. She made the best cinnamon rolls and the family will never forget her Sunday dinners. She especially enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and great-grandsons. Anna is survived by her children, Gary (Linda) DuFresne of Breitung Township, Craig (Paula) DuFresne of Felch and Lynne (Ron) Olson of Homestead, Wis.; brother, Jon Larson of Auburn, Wash.; sisters, Shirley (Hubert) Franck and Karen Hixon, both of Aurora, Wis.; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Nathan) Boravich, Paul (fianc Rachel Latz) DuFresne, Amy (Jesse) Stoltenow and Bryan (Samantha) Olson; great-grandsons, Derek Rosatti and Bradley Boravich; brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen (Dorothy) DuFresne, Barbara (Lloyd) Tharpe and Diane Izzo. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Carmen Ambrosia of Iron Mountain. In addition to her parents and husband, Charles, who passed away April 22, 1988, Anna was preceded in death by an infant son, Leonard Charles; a sister, Elaine Greenwood; and a brother, Reams Larson. Private family services are being held. Burial will be next to her husband at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Condolences to the family of Anna M.
