Alice Ann Tuomela

Alice Ann Tuomela, 79, of Iron Mountain, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond Du Lac, WI. She was born on August 2, 1937, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Bella (Goulette) Turk. Alice was a 1955 graduate of Kingsford High School. She attended college in Minneapolis, MN where she earned her certification as a dental hygienist and then worked at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. On February 27, 1960, Alice married the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Tuomela. Together they owned and operated Twin City Cleaners for more than 35 years. Alice was an avid softball player and selected to the All State Softball Team of 1955. She loved the game of golf and was a member of Pine Grove Country Club for more than 50 years. She also was a devoted Packer fan. Alice loved spending her winters in Chandler and Mesa, Arizona with all of her Arizona friends. She lived her life to the fullest each and every day. She cherished her faith and was so proud of her family and treasured the time she spent with them. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Bill Tuomela, Colorado Springs, CO, Connie (Gary) Jacobson, Breitung Township, Bob (Mary) Tuomela, Breitung Township; grandchildren, Mallory (Derek) Koller, Krista and Eric Tuomela, and Taylor Jacobson; great grandchildren Jacob and Drake; brother Gene (Gwenyth) Turk, Chandler, AZ; special friend Donald “Blondy” Larsen, Spread Eagle, WI, many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Tuomela, in January 2008; and by her sister-in-law, Nancy Swanson, of Ishpeming, MI. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Erickson- Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace, Fr. Mike Woempner will officiate. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
