Alan R. Monette

Alan R. Monette 65, of Breitung Twp., died on October 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Alan was born in Iron Mountain on September 3, 1953, son of the late Francis and Alice (Bednarz) Monette. He was a 1971 graduate of Kingsford High School. Alan married Ranee Richard on June 4, 1976 in Iron Mountain. They spent a brief time in Colorado before returning to this area to raise their family Alan was involved in the grocery store his father built for many years. He purchased Monette's Market in Kingsford from his father in 1982. In addition to managing the stores daily operations, Alan had been the butcher for the past twenty years prior to his retirement in 2016. Alan was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church and Pine Grove Country Club. He was a past president of the Pine Mountain Ski Club and enjoyed all winter sports, especially skiing and snowboarding. Alan loved being outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, playing golf, riding his motorcycle and four wheeling with his side by side. He especially loved spending time with his five grand daughters. He is survived by his wife, Ranee; his children, Nicole Monette of Kingsford and Brandon (Allison) Monette of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Paul (Linda) Monette of Stephenson, Peter Monette of Merriman and Michael Monette of Kingsford; sister, Suzanne (Jon) Harry of Spread Eagle; grand daughters, Marleigh, Magdalena, Madeline, Monreaux "Rosie" and Amelia. He is also survived by his mother in law, Mary Richard of Kingsford; sisters in law, Randee (James) Oleniczak and Roberta (Perry Amicangelo) Richard and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his father in law, Robert Richard. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Thursday, Nov. 1, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church . Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the church. Rev. Paul Strom will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory Out of respect for Alan's family, Monette's Market will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 1st. Normal business hours will resume on Friday.
